THE BIG PROBLEM: FLOODS

Venice is constantly under water! Climate change is to blame for the flooding, as is the soil of the islands on which Venice was built (find out more here) and the enormous weight of Venice's buildings. As the sea level rises, the sandy subsoil sinks. However, the subsidence of the ground is accelerated by industry. In addition, the number of aquatic plants in the lagoon has declined due to water pollution. However, these plants ensure the preservation of the sandbanks by strengthening the subsoil.
