Germany

I don't always have to go far away to have a great vacation. Germany also has a lot to offer! Be it a vacation on the North Sea or Baltic Sea, a relaxing vacation in the Bavarian mountains or a hiking tour through Saxon Switzerland. The choice is as varied as the country itself.

Overview

Capital

Germany's capital is Berlin.

Language

The national language is German, although some also understand or speak English.

Currency

In Germany, payments are made in euros.

Entry & Visas

Germany is a member of the EU, which is why EU citizens do not require a visa. In addition, there are generally no border controls within the EU. You only need to carry your identity card with you.

Time

Central European Time (UTC+1) applies.

Credit cards & ATMs

There are a few ATMs in the cities. Outside of cities, however, you should always have enough cash with you. In restaurants and other establishments, it is best to ask in advance whether card payment is possible.

Best time to visit

It depends on what you have in mind. Mid-December to mid-March are best for skiing. The summer months are better for hiking. City trips are possible all year round.

Driving

A national driving license is sufficient for EU citizens. The road network is well developed and the roads are in good condition. The traffic signs and rules are by and large standardized within Europe.

The speed limit on the highways is unlimited, unless a sign states otherwise. Outside built-up areas you may drive at 100 km/h and within built-up areas at 50 km/h. The drink-drive limit is 0.5 per mille.

You can find more information here.

Phone

If you have a phone contract from the EU or the Schengen area, you do not pay any roaming charges. You can therefore use your phone at the same rate as at home.
