Porto

For me, Porto is a bit like a painting. The composition of the mountainous landscape, on the slopes of which houses with their orange roofs are lined up, with the Douro, which meanders through the city, and the iron bridge has something pictorially beautiful about it. Authentic restaurants and cute boutiques invite you to linger. Porto has won me over! Will it convince you too?

dear(travel)diary,

I've wanted to go to Porto for so long because I was tempted by the many pictures of the city! Everything looked so picturesque and beautiful. When I arrived in Porto, I was not to be disappointed. The city was indeed beautiful! It exudes a certain flair that immediately cast a spell over me.

Unfortunately, we were only in the city for far too short a time. Our time in Porto was therefore more limited to sightseeing than really experiencing the city. For me, one thing is certain: I will be back to try out the many restaurants and cafés, to buy beautiful souvenirs in the boutiques and to enjoy a glass of port wine with a view of the city at sunset.

Where to sleep

We were traveling by van and therefore didn't stay overnight in Porto as we didn't fancy a parking space in the city. Experience has shown that these are usually very expensive and not very good in cities. So we drove to the Duoro Valley and spent the night there for free at a winery that we found on Park4Night: Quinta da Padrela.

In addition to a parking space, we even had electricity, a clean toilet and shower and a free guided tour of the winery followed by a wine tasting. The concept of the owners of Quinta da Padrela is clear: they want to attract campers so that they test and buy their wine. We did the same, but we were happy to do so. Because this way we had a wonderful stay in the Duoro Valley and at the same time still have delicious wine for our loved ones and ourselves at home.

Costs

  • Lunch for two at Taberna Santo António: €22
  • Pastel de Nata at Padaria Ribeiro: €4.40 for 2
  • Dinner (supermarket): €6.50
  • Pitch Duoro Valley: 0€
  • Wine Duoro Valley: 50€ for 5 bottles
  • Parking: 4€
