Lake Como

Lake Como in Italy is considered the most beautiful of the northern Italian lakes. And no wonder! Because the picturesque lake with its colorful villas in the midst of an impressive mountain backdrop is breathtaking! So, what are you waiting for? Let yourself be enchanted by the charm of Lake Como!

dear(travel)diary,

I am constantly amazed by the beauty of Italy. Lake Como was no exception. Quite the opposite! I've already been to Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano and I loved all the lakes. But Lake Como took the cake once again. The mixture of huge mountains, impressive villas, colorful cities, glittering water and cute mountain villages totally thrilled us! I can totally understand why George Clooney chose to live here.

So if you're looking for a destination for your next vacation in northern Italy, then the “Lario” (as Lake Como is called by locals) should be at the top of your list! Or you can go on a lakeside road trip. Because the other northern Italian lakes are all worth seeing too!

Where to sleep

As we were traveling by van, we camped on Lake Como. We first looked for a nice campsite in Lenno (“Campeggio La Vedo”). For us, the campsite was in the perfect location for all our excursions. The adjacent restaurant was also very good (we particularly recommend the pizza), the sanitary facilities were well maintained and the staff were friendly. We also really liked the village of Lenno, as it wasn't quite so touristy, so I would also recommend non-campers to look for accommodation there. There is also the beautiful Villa del Balbianello in Lenno!

We spent the last night wild camping. We chose a great location via Park4Night at the mountain lake “Lago di Pusiano” between Como and Lecco (10 Via Cristoforo Colombo). There was a beach by the lake with a jetty leading into the water. We spent a romantic last evening there.
